For over 40 years, SDI Design has evolved from a boutique commercial interiors studio into a nationally celebrated, multi-sector design firm with award-winning projects across Canada and North America. Today, our diverse portfolio spans workplace, healthcare, retail, hospitality, multi-residential, and increasingly, branded environments and immersive brand activations.

Founder’s Legacy
Matthew Shuster
Shuster Design Inc., a boutique studio specializing in commercial interiors, was founded in 1984 by Matthew Shuster, OAA, following his Bachelor of Architecture at McGill University in 1971. With sharp strategic vision and an unwavering commitment to client relationships, Matthew grew the studio into one of Toronto’s most respected corporate interior design practices, laying the foundation for what would become SDI Design.
After retiring in 2007, Matthew passed the torch to Joanne Chan, ensuring the firm’s continued success. Though he went on to practice independently until his passing in 2012, his passion for design remained at the heart of everything he touched.
Today, Matthew’s legacy lives on in every project we undertake. Under Joanne’s leadership, SDI Design has evolved into a nationally recognized, award-winning studio with a dynamic portfolio across workplace, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and multi-residential sectors. With a strong presence across Canada and an expanding footprint in North America and beyond, SDI continues to honour its roots while boldly shaping the future of design.
