The Adelaide Project is Toronto’s revolutionary boutique lighting studio, conceived and curated by Canadian-based TPL Lighting. More than a showroom, it redefines how designers and consumers experience light, offering a provocative, immersive approach to specifying and sourcing luminaires. Located in the heart of King West, the studio hosts installations, events, and residencies that showcase lighting alongside furnishings, art, and decor in functional, contextual settings.

Its latest residency, ICONS REIMAGINED, puts HSPLUS’s new hospitality furniture portfolio in the spotlight. SDI Design transformed the intimate King West Victorian heritage building into a living gallery where furniture comes to life through storytelling, interactivity, and gamification. Seven bold, narrative-driven vignettes invite visitors to explore, discover, and engage, blending color, texture, form, and illumination into immersive experiences. The SDI team meticulously spent hours sourcing and staging the perfect props, textiles, art, and rugs to bring each vignette to life, ensuring every detail contributes to the story:

“ICONS REIMAGINED reframes the traditional product presentation as an immersive, narrative-driven design experience, where furniture, lighting, textiles, and materials are revealed through storytelling rather than static display. Anchored by HSPLUS’s newly launched hospitality furniture collection, the project replaces catalogues and cut sheets with seven immersive vignettes, each shaped by the identity and cultural symbolism of iconic figures such as David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama, Leonard Cohen, and others.

These icons serve as conceptual frameworks, defining mood, colour palette, materiality, lighting strategy, and spatial composition. Within each vignette, products are presented in use and in context, allowing designers to experience how furnishings, lighting, and materials interact to create atmosphere and meaning.

ICONS REIMAGINED is a forward-thinking model for experiential showrooms, where design is communicated through experience, emotion, and narrative.

The installation is supported by a collaborative network of partners including Somato Textiles, Rollout, Paul Petro Contemporary Art, and Interface, each contributing to the layered, immersive environment.
